GETTING KIDS ACTIVE
It's an old refrain of parents: "Turn off the TV and go outside !"
Did you know that kids should be active for at least 60 minutes a day to stay health?
That is the guideline issued recently by Participaction and the Canada Society for Exercise Physiology for children from ages five to 11.
In addition, kids shouldn't stare at a screen for more than two hours perday.
This includes TV as well as computers and video games.
Ideally, each week's activities should include a few things.
The first is getting sweaty and out of breath three times a week.
And another is doing activities that strengthen bone and muscles three times.
Children don't have to know they are "exercising," just that they are having fun.
Try rollerblading, playing tag, running, swimming, biking, or playing at the park.
