Huckleberry Tea
Amy thought she'd brew some tea on a Summer's day.
She made huckleberry tea and served it on a tray.
On that tray she placed a bowl.
It was heaping to the brim with big plump purple huckleberries to share with her teddybear Tim.
But Tim was not the only bear to dine on berries that day, for behind the big old Lilac bush Harry Bear did lay....
Watching and wondering...."That bowl, It must be mine !"
The more he thought about it the more it seemed so-o-o fine !
Then Harry Bear had an idea and he began to grin. He came up with a sneaky plan while staring at the apple bin.
He plucked a perfect apple from Amy's father's tree.
He threw it against her playhouse so Amy'd get up to see.
"What was the whack all about ?"
"Has anyone gone in ?" ,and as she turned her back on the bowl Harry knew that he would win !
He thought he was so clever.
He thought he was so smart.
He ran and grabbed the berry bowl and off through the woods did dart.
As he ran he imagined how sweet and juicy and fine those huckleberries would be tasting !
"At last they are all mine !"
"Wait !" thought Harry still running.
"These berries are good, but I wish, I wish that I could eat them alongside a great big fish !"
So Harry ran along the creek until it emptied into the lake.
He set the berries on the ground then a huge splash he did make !
Harry scrambled up the bank to have his merry feast but when he saw what happened he was not a happy beast !
He flung the fish upon the shore and roared a mighty roar !
The red winged blackbirds flew away !
They would dine no more !
It only took a minute but when Harry turned around, he looked in all directions but his fish could not be found !
For Wylee Fox had seen it amnd quick as the blink of an eye, he stole the fish and ran away ! Foxes are so sly !
How was Harry feeling now ?
just look upon his face !
He had just lost everything; all was gone, without a trace ! "Say, this must be how Amy felt when I stole her berry bowl."
For the first time in his greedy life, he felt sorry deep down to his soul !
Poor Amy !
She too was feeling sad.
For when Mom's favourite bowl was missing, her Mom got really mad !
Amy was sent to her room to try to remember where she had misplaced that precious bowl.
She never dreamed it was the bear !
Harry wandered sadly along the creek side trail.
He was feeling rather hungry now !
How did his good plan fail ?
It was then that Harry stumbled upon a wonderful surprise !
Hidden in the forest was a berry bush !
Harry couldn't believe his eyes !
It was the biggest berry bush that he had ever seen !
It was loaded with plump berries !
It was better than a dream !
So Harry feasted happily upon those berries there.
He had berry stains on his paws !
He had berries in his hair !
Then he thought of Amy and came up with a plan.
He wanted to make her happy too, so off to Amy's house he ran !
It was starting to get dark.
Amy was sleeping in her room.
Harry tiptoed past her window and in the light of the moon....
Wasn't that nice of him ?
When Amy woke that morning and dashed outside to play,
she spied the berries on the table and her Mom's best bowl ! "Hurray !"
"I wonder where these berries came from ?" Amy thought aloud.
"I am so happy that the bowl is back !"
Harry felt so proud !
For if you look behind the bush you will see him there, with a smile on his face and berries in his hair !
Look closer still and you will see his little friend Nibbles too !
Even big old Grizzly bears need friends, at least a few !
Amy ran and got her friends, her kitty and her teddy bear Tim.
She was going to share her bowl of berries, heaping to the brim !
AS Harry wandered into the woods with Nibbles behind his ear, he thought sharing was a nice idea and that hunckleberry bush was near !
So Harry gathered some of his friends and led them to the spot where the berries grew so plentiful everyone got alot !
They had berry stains upon their paws and berries in their hair !
They were all so full and happy that they didn't even care !
and happiest of all was Harry, for he had learned to share !
....About Grizzly Bears
Grizzly bears live in the northwestern interior of North America.
They have large plantigrade feet (meaning the heel and sole touch the groung ) and five long claws on their front paws for digging.
They usually have deep chocolate-brown fur with a ruff of longer hair that makes their head look very large.
A male grizzly can weigh up to 1100 pounds ( 500kg ).
The females are smaller. Grizzlies like to live in upen areas and hibernate during the winter months in dens or caves.
Before hibernation the Grizzlies become sleepy and slow, but when active they need huge amounts of fish, berries, and plants to keep them going.
Grizzlies are usually shy animals; they mind their own business and stay away from people.
They make a loud roar when hurt or angry but normally warn other bear & people to stay away by huffing or making a clacking sound with their teeth.
